Dan Sparling
Cast Member
Like Theodore Roosevelt before him, Dan came to the North Dakota Badlands from New York as a young man—and never looked back. He fell in love with the rugged beauty of the land, the untamed spirit of the wild horses, and a sweet North Dakota farm girl named Veronica. Together, they built a life rooted in family, horsemanship, and the rhythms of the land, raising three children and riding through the Badlands that had captured Dan’s heart. In 2009, everything changed with Bashful—a notorious two-year-old park horse who leapt from the sales ring and into Dan and Michael’s lives. Taming Bashful became a turning point, sparking a deeper journey into training and horsemanship that would shape the future. Today, Dan and Veronica, alongside their son Michael and his family, own and operate Bellwether Farm (https://www.bellwetherfarmusa.com/) in River Falls, Wisconsin—a bold and creative equine training and horsemanship coaching facility. Bellwether is more than a barn; it’s a community devoted to authentic horsemanship, stewardship of the land, and the enduring bond between horse and rider.

Henry Weber
North Dakota Badlands Horse Rider
Henry got a late start with horses, but figured it was time to get one when his wife, daughter, and son each had one. Then came participation in trail riding, western events with the Bismarck horse club, and hunter/jumper competition with the Bismarck English Riders. The trail riding led to following the wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. He volunteered for the park assisting with roundups and low stress captures from 2003-2019. During that time, he also took part in the Behavior Study that Colorado State University did to determine effects of contraceptive on some of the wild horses. He has assisted Marylu with North Dakota Badlands Horse to promote the horses that have been removed from the Park.
In 2003 he purchased a 6-month-old colt after the roundup. Fire has been his trusted steed for many trips to the badlands of Theordore Roosevelt National Park. He is also exploring the trails in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.

Dana Daniels
North Dakota Badlands Horse Rider
Dana is a service dog trainer out of Minnesota, who was previously in veterinary medicine before finding a love of training. She often uses horses to teach service dogs in training how to behave around farm animals and reassure them. Quicksilver is happy to assist her in the job! Quicksilver, a 9-year-old out of Silver and Juniper, was adopted by Dana as a weanling. He adores every person he meets and is always the first to the gate when called!

Emma Dunbar
North Dakota Badlands Horse Rider
Emma is 14 years old and has done a number of things in her life related to horses. She loves Appaloosas, Friesians, and Red Roan Mustangs. She shares 3 horses with her mom, but she claims them all to be hers. The one and only, her gray Mustang, Baldy (who is also called Rocket Donkey in his old age), her Friesian mare Jetaime and her Friesian gelding Zephyr. She does a variety of events from jumping with Baldy, to playing around with liberty. If she could dream of the perfect future for herself, it would be training horses as she gets older and having a ranch of her own.

Park since the late 80s, she has also gentled six of them, including her husband’s horse, Fire, and her long-time favorite saddlehorse, Hawk.

Through this organization, owners and lovers of these unique horses can network, share photos and stories, and attend events, representing and advocating for the horses. At the Untamed Legacy show, Marylu will be catching a ride on Dan Sparling’s gelding, Bashful, a horse she named and whose amazing story she wrote about.
